Eleven patients with tinnitus were injected with 2% xylocaine (2 or 3ml) intravenously in order to change their tinnitus. The changes of tinnitus were evaluated subjectively by the patients and also objectively by two different manners of pitch match, loundness balance methods. The rough pitch match (RPM), rough loudness balance (RLB) method was performed with apure tone audiometer. The fine pitch match (FPM), fine loudness balance (FLB) method was performed with a Bekesy type audiometer. Coincidence between subjective and objective evaluations of the changes of tinnitus were 59.5%, 54.3% in the RPM, RLB method and 64.3%, 52.5% in the FPM, RLB method respectively. We could find no significant difference in the reliability between the RPM, RLB method and the FPM, FLB method in the evaluation of changes in tinnitus.
