We evaluated the usefulness of SANET-L by administering it to 9 patients with malignancy occurring in the neck and head region. SANET-L was administered by a feeding tube for an average of 20 days at a rate of 1300 Kcal per day, which comprised 88% of the total caloric intake. Following surgery, no significant weight reduction was recognized and serum albumin levels recovered after 4 days, which was considered to be a favorable outcome. Results of liver and kindey function tests, serum lipids, serum electrolytes and hematology showed no abnormalities, which indicated the safety of SANET-L. The dose was reduced in one patient due to diarrhea. SANET-L can be administered orally without complaints of its taste. SANET-L was recognized to be useful in all patients, and was classified as better than moderately useful in 6 (67%) patients.
