Abstract

We studied the clinical effect and safety of pemirolast potassium (TBX) tablets in 38 patients with perennial allergic rhinitis at 8 institutions. The patients received a 5mg tablet of TBX twice daily for at least 8 weeks. The final global improvement rating showed “moderate to marked improvement” in 64% of the patients, and “slight to marked improvement” in 85%. Side effects observed in 3 patients (8%), were all mild and transient. Improvements of both subjective and objective symptoms were noted by at least the 2nd week of treatment, and a satisfactory effect persisted throughout the long treatment period. We consider TBX tablets to be effective for the long-term treatment of perennial allergic rhinitis.
