Abstract
The Chinese (Kampo) medicine, Syohseiryu-toh, has been shown to improve such symptoms as suppuration, inflammation and allergic reaction. This study evaluates the effectiveness of this medicine for the treatment of chronic sinusitis. The therapeutic effect was rated very good in 5%, moderate in 50%, and slight in 25% of the cases. Rhinorrhea, nasal obstruction and postnasal discharge were highly improved. The long term (7-12 months) administration of medication was more effective than short term (3-6 months) administration. No side effects were observed in any of the patients. Syohseiryu-toh is useful for treatment of patients with chronic sinusitis.
