Use of informed consent was studied in twenty-five cases of reconstructive surgery for malignant tumors in the head and neck regions. It was possible to inform the patient and family of the cancer or malignant tumor in all cases. Full disclosure of the nature of the illness through the use of informed consent was found to be beneficial to the mental and physical status of the patients and their families, especially in cases entering the terminal stages of the illness.
