The radical operations performed for purulent meningitis of otogenous origin in one case and of rhinogenous origin in the other resulted in unconsciousness and anuria in the former case and disturbances of consciousness and incontinence of urine in the latter.
Though it was practically impossible to remove the cerebrospinal fluid sufficiently, an antibiotic administered effected a complete recovery, demonstrating that timely surgical treatment followed by adequate use of antibiotics can be expected to bring up the rate of recovery from this intractable disease.
