By examining histologically the central course of auditory nerves of starved rabbits and guinea-pig the following changes were observed:
1) When rabbits or guinea-pig are weakened by hunger, nerve cell in the central ccyarse of auditory nerve manifests slight change in Nissl's corpuscle.
2) The change by hunger which is seen on nerve cell in the central couse of auditory nerve is different in each region: that is, it is very ramarkable in spiral ganglion, the nuculeus cochlearis ventralis, tuberculum acusticum, nuculeus olivaris superior and corpus geniculatuni medialis are slightly changed, and very slight in the tempyral lobe.
3) The change of Nissl's body in nerve cells of Nuculeus n. vestibularis, compared with those of nuculeus cochlearis ventralis, tuberculum acusticum, and nuculeus olivaris superior is slighter.
4) The change of nervous cells begins with contraction of cell body, and then, appeared its swelling and chromatolysis. At that time cell body gradually shows apparent contraction and colouring, but there is no sign of change in nuculeus.
5.Cochleary nerve fibre slightly atrophied after 7 day's hunger in rabbits, but root of auditory nerve, Monakow's, Held's fibre and fibre of trapezoid body almost show no change.
