Abstract
When Labyrinth is opened by the eliminating each ampulla of semicircular canal separately, a remakable change in labyrinth always follows as the result.
To obserbe, therefore, what effects has the eliminating of semicircularcanal upon the labyrinth and to see if the manners of restoration of the injury are different by selecting, as the case may be, the semicircularcanal to be operated, are matters of interesting and important concerns for the purpose of establishing a guide, in the case of labyrinthinflammation, for finding out the place of disease and if it is progressing or recovering. The author's studies were carried out in these respects using to guineapigs and the outcome of which is concluded in the following sentences.
When each semicircularcanal is eliminated separately by operation, the auditory function as well as that of the vestibular labyrinth, that is to say the all labyrinthine reflexions, suffer always definite changes: they are weakened or lost. The changes confine to each semicircularcanal for some time after the operation and then the symptoms change to general labyrinthine phenomena of the saccular and utricular maculae. The cochlearfunction decays or disappears at the same time. The generalization of the symptoms and the restoration of them occur with different velocity by which semicircularcanal may concern. The generalization of the symptoms appears most early im the case of horizontal canal, in the case of the posterior vertical canal at the last and in the case of the anterior vertical canal between the two. The order of the restoration in just reverted.
