Abstract
The author gives an outline of the petrochemical industry in U.S.A.on the basis of some experiences he had during his inspection trip there, together with a discussion of its future outlook in Japan. In spite of the growing interest in its field among our petroleum refiners and synthetic chemical producers, they seem to hesitate to put it in practice, because of their different situations. The author, however, pointing out that the imported crude oil is economically feasible for its conversion to petrochemicals, though Japan is poor in resources for this industry, hopes that it will be realized as soon as possible.
