This paper deals with the vast results of the overseas investigations divided into the following sevenitems: Background of public nuisance; regulations; power station showings;desulfurizationof fuels; SO2 removal from stack gases; smoke abatement, and waste water treatment. In each item, the author first explains the present status mainly in West Germany, France, Great Britain and U.S.A., and considers Japanese environment. He pointed out problems to be discussed on the future counterplan for the public nuisances in our country.
