An efficient biomass gasification process using active catalyst is developed in this study. Woody biomass was used as gasification samples. Ni loaded brown coal char catalyst were selected as catalysts for tar gasification. Catalytic pyrolysis of tarry material produced from biomass was studied at a low temperature between 723K and 823K in a two-stage fixed bed reactor. Product gas and tar were analyzed with GC. Ni-loaded brown coal char showed high activity for tar decomposition. Almost all tarry materials were converted to light gases such as H_2, CO_2 and CH_4.
