Cotton fiber generates the glucose by hydrolysis because it is mainly composed of cellulose. Then, reaction conditions (acid concentration, reaction temperature and flow velocity) were examined to generate glucose in high yield without decomposing glucose. As a result, though the cotton hydrolysis was promoted along with the rise of the acid concentration, the glucose decomposition was not promoted. Therefore, it turned out that the acid concentration should be high to generate glucose in high yield. In addition, it was confirmed that the cotton hydrolysis was more promoted along with the rise of the reaction temperature. However, the glucose decomposition was promoted. Though the glucose decomposition can be controlled if the flow velocity was increased, it was preferable that the cotton hydrolysis was performed at less than 220 ℃.
