The purpose of this study is to design and analyze a woody biomass supply chain. Proposed supply chain consists of felling and collecting of a raw wood, pre-processing, and raw wood and wood fuel transport. In particular, the transport process includes two mobilities modes; three weight divided types of trucks, and railways. Applying mixed integer linear programming model provides optimal logging area, pre-processing plant location and capacity, and supply flow of raw wood and fuel. As a case study, we selected five prefectures with feasible forest in Tohoku area in Japan. Annual feasible amount of wood and shortest transport path are calculated with Geographic Information System (GIS). Optimized supply chain is evaluated in three dimensions; wood fuel supply cost, Energy Return on Investment (EROI), and Net CO_2 reduction amount. We examined three deferent cases, in the best case, 4 t truck, 10 t truck and 20 t truck can be used and unit supply cost of a pellet becomes 24,267 JPY/t as a result.
