In hydrothermal pretreatment of biomass, many catalyst can be used to enhance the amount of product yield. Organic acid is one of the catalyst that has been used a lot in hydrothermal pretreatment. Meanwhile, decomposition of cellobiose has been studied in terms of organic acid production in the liquid product, considering the possibility of using organic acid produced by decomposition of cellobiose as the catalyst of decomposition process itself. The purpose of this study is to further understand the type of organic acids and amount of the outcome. Cellobiose was hydrothermally treated under hydrothermal condition, and the product was analyzed by TOC, HPLC, and LCMS to identify the composition. The result showed that organic acids could be detected in this hydrothermal treatment product but only in the small amount.
