The purpose of study is to propose the energy evaluation of biomass energy system based on material flow and energy flow. It is focused on Preprocessing that the bio-fuel is produced from biomass resources and Energy conversion that the bio-fuel is utilized to generate electricity, heat, and/or transportation fuel. Usually, energy return on investment (EROI), which is defined as the ratio of bio-fuel energy and consumed fossil fuel energy, is used to evaluate the energy of biomass energy system. In this study, the effective utilization rate of resource and the fossil fuel substitution rate are defined and compared with EROI. These factors can evaluate the effective utilization of biomass resource for fossil fuel substitution.
