Abstract
Oleaginous yeast Rhodosporidium toruloides can produce high amounts of lipid (Triacylglycerol) from monosaccharides converted from biomass. In the optimal condition, lipid drop in R. toruloides cell occupy over 70% of dry cell weight. R. toruloides also can produce carotenoid having antioxdtive effect. Carotenoid represent a group of valuable molecules for the pharmaceutical, chemical, food and feed industries. It is said carotenoid production microorganism improved the productivity of carotenoid by irradiation. But carotenoid biosynthesis mechanism by irradiation have been unknown yet. In R. toruloides NBRC 10032 strain, it indicated red phenotype by irradiation and suggested to improve the productivity of carotenoid. Here we showed the elucidation of light responsive mechanism of R. toruloides NBRC 10032 strain. And we analyzed interaction between production of lipid and carotenoid. Consequently, we indicated the improvement of the productivity of carotenoid and the effect on growth in R. toruloides NBRC 10032 strain by irradiation.
