Oleaginous yeast Lipomyces starkeyi is a great lipid producer, which accumulates up to 70% of dry cell weight as triacylglycerol (TAG). Lipid productivity of L. starkeyi CBS1807 under different conditions were investigated. Flask batch culture were run for 6 days and reached a triacylglycerol (TAG) concentration and yield of 18.0 g/L and 18.1% (w/w) in 30℃, pH 6.0, respectively. The jar-fermenter scale fed-batch culture in a 5 L fermenter for 192 h reached in TAG concentration, yield and productivity of 112.3 g/L, 22.0% (w/w) and 14 g/L/day, respectively. Gas chromatography analysis indicated that major compositions of fatty acid were oleic acid, palmitic aid, stearic acid, and linoleic acid. As the rise of KLa value, the ratio of linoleic acid in fatty acid composition was increased. Based on these results, the fermentation method should have a great potential to develop more efficient processes to renewable materials.
