A global technological trend of petroleomics and its development in Japan were reviewed briefly. The methods and approach of petroleomics should be useful also for other hydrocarbons, such like coal, biomass, and polymers. The hydrocarbonomics committee has been established in June 2016 as a section of the heavy oil devision of the Japan Institute of Energy, aiming to apply the technical essense of petroleomics to other hydrocarbons, simultaniously to strengthen petroleomics itself. Establishment of techniques for targeted approch could be the aonther theme of the further development of petroleomics technology.
