The design and application of a wide range recording illuminometer which measures illuminance from 10-5 lx to 105 lx with a precision of ± 1% in nine divided stages, is described. All the operations of this illuminometer are done by pushing the button switches arranged on the panel of the measuring unit, and so the illuminance at a distant place is measured by a remote operation. When a strong light happens to fall on the receiving surface during measurement or the output ammeter and the recorder are scaled out through mistake, the illuminometer will be protected by the automatic action of the protecting circuit.
As application of this illuminometer, the illuminance variation of the natural light during a whole day and the decay curve of a phosphor with a wide variation of intensity have been precisely recorded.
