The hydrothermal reactions of mineral matter in coal and lime were carried out at 300℃ under autogeneous pressure in an autoclave. The hydrothermal products of Illinois #6 coal with lime were very effective for desulfurization. To determine the effective species, quartz or kaolinite was allowed to react with lime. These reaction products could absorb SO_x more effectively than raw lime.
