In this work, co-gasification of Indonesia sub-bituminous coal and Thai biomass (rice straw and Leucaena wood) was investigated using a drop-tube fixed bed reactor. The effects of biomass blending ratio, reaction temperature and biomass types on carbon conversion and gas production were studied. The results indicated that some synergetic effects were observed in cases of co-gasification of coal and biomass with steam, particularly at biomass blending ratio of 50wt%. At higher temperature (1073K), carbon-conversion into gas significantly increased due to the endothermic reactions during the gasification process. Finally, when considering the effect of biomass types, it was found that coal-mixed rice straw gave the higher carbon-conversion into gas than coal-mixed Leucaena wood. This is attributable to the difference in H/C molar ratio of each biomass.
