Spontaneous combustion in coal stockpiles and pulverizer is one of the problems encountered when utilizing coals such as sub-bituminous coal and brown coal that contain highly volatile matter. The purpose of this study is to clarify the ignition characteristics of Indonesian sub-bituminous coal and Australian bituminous coal using drop tube furnace (DTF). The effect of moisture contents in coal on the ignition temperature was investigated. As a result, the exothermic onset temperature of the sub-bituminous coal was lower than that of the bituminous coal, and that temperature was decreased in the low moisture condition.
