Abstract

This study aimed to investigate removal of chelated heavy metal ions from aqueous solution by adsorption on layered double hydroxides (LDHs). LDH with Mg and Al intercalated with carbonate ion was synthesized and calcined at 500°C for 3 hour. Ca. 50% of EDTA-chelated copper ion was removed by the calcined LDH from 500 mg-Cu/L aqueous solution. Recover of copper from the LDH subjected to the adsorption was carried out by calcination at 500°C, dissolution into nitric acid and precipitation by hydrogen sulfide gas. Addition of 20 wt% of NaOH to the solution accomplished restructuring of the LDH.
