Cracking and liquefaction of ABS were investigated in the presence of alkaline earth compounds such as oxides, hydroxides, and carbonates to remove nitrogen. Oxides and hydroxides promoted the reduction of nitrogen content in the product oil, whereas carbonates showed poor activities for the nitrogen removal. Barium oxide gave the highest effectiveness; yield and N content in the product oil were 60% and 2.8%, respectively. The nitrogen removal with BaO was suggested to proceed to form NH3 via Ba(CN)2
