To investigate the effect of the concentration of tetra-n-butylammonium bromide (TBAB) aqueous solution on the unique growth process of the TBAB hydrate formed in solid TBAB 26H2O (semiclathrate hydrate), TBAB 26H2O samples were prepared from 40, 42, and 44wt% TBAB aqueous solutions and held at 11°C for 12 hours to 27 days. The weights of the TBAB hydrate formed in the samples were measured. TBAB 26H2O prepared from 42wt% TBAB aqueous solution was mostly changed to the TBAB hydrate within two weeks, though the other TBAB 26H2O solids were partially converted. Since the converted hydrate is close to TBAB 24H2O in stoichiometric composition and the dissociation temperature of TBAB 24H2O is higher than that of TBAB 26H2O, we consider that TBAB 24H2O might be formed in solid TBAB 26H2O.
