Green hydrogen, which is crucial for achieving a decarbonized society, can be produced via water electrolysis using green electricity. One of the challenges for the social implementation of green hydrogen is the high cost associated with water electrolyzers. Tokyo Gas and SCREEN are collaborating to reduce the cost of CCMs for water electrolysis by combining their knowledge and technologies for the development of PEM fuel cells, which are the roll-to-roll CCM continuous production technology with direct coating method. We have succeeded in producing a uniform CCM of more than 800cm2. Then, the water electrolysis performance of CCMs manufactured by using direct coating method showed the same as those by using conventional spray coating method, and the high durability was also confirmed.
