Visitors to Ozegahara consist of approximately 70% of the middle aged and older segment. In this situation, the number of accidents has been increasing. The importance of advance information has been pointed out in order to prevent these accidents ; and it was highlighted in the visitors preparation with shoes and raingear so that visitors can enjoy safe and comfortable hiking. First of all, shoes and raingear that visitors are wearing were studied. Next, questionnaires were distributed to investigate : 1) visitors evaluation of shoes and raingear, and 2) the relationship between shoes and raingear preparation and advance information. Survey results were analyzed by cross tabulation and a Chi-Square Test. Fifty-three percent of the visitors were wearing hiking shoes, and 47 percent sneakers. On rainy days, 17 percent were wearing a rain poncho. As a result of Chi-Square Test, the following are factors with statistically significant deviations. There is a tendency that visitors with hiking shoes felt their shoes were appropriate and the ones with sneakers felt theirs were inappropriate. Another tendency detected is that visitors who felt well prepared with raingear had rain suits and the like, and the ones that felt unprepared had rain ponchos. Also, visitors who checked information in advance tended to wear hiking shoes and be equipped with rain suits ; and the ones that did not bother to check advance information tended to wear sneakers and were equipped with rain ponchos. The relationship between appropriate equipment for an Oze visit and advance information has been thus clarified.
