Abstract
Bentgrass seeds, which required both light and temperature alternations for the full germination, gave higher germination percentages in light even at the constant temperature than in darkness. The effectiveness of light on the germination of these see Is was the highest in the region from about 10 Lux to 1000 Lux in the continuous irradiation at 23°C constant temperature. The continuous irradiation with 3000 Lux of light gave lower germination percentages. The highest sensitivity to light was maintained for several days after sowing with Astoria bentgrass and Highland bentgrass seeds. When the irradiation with 10 Lux of light was started at the same time with sowing, the light effect was saturated within 1 to 2 days with Astoria bentgrass and Highland bentgrass seeds.
