To conserve coppices are extremely important for amenities in the urban fringe.
In this study, we attempted to analyze mixed land use in the urban fringe by distributioncharacteristics of coppices, which are represented by coppice coverage ratio and its mixturerate given by Landsat TM data.
Results are summarized as follows,
1) The degree of accuracy of Landsat TM data, analyzed by ratioing technique, aresufficient for practical use both in coppice coverage ratio and its mixture rate.
2) The matrix of coppice coverage ratio and its mixture rate are expected to showtransitions of mixed land use which are caused by the destruction of coppices mostly becauseof urbanization.
