Abstract
Characteristics of tandem queues with finite buffer have been studied by many researchers. These studies aimed at giving a general guideline on system design. Many of these models studied the effect of buffer capacity and/or service time distribution on system performance as measured mostly by the throughput, without considering the existence of demand. In this study, we explicitly deal with arrival of demand and show its effect on system performances as measured by multiple criteria such as throughput, degree of demand satisfaction, Work-in-process level (WIP), and average sojourn time.
