The sequential sampling inspection plans based on the minimal lattice paths have been presented by Furukawa et al. The inspection plans assure that the actual producer's and consumer's risks are strictly less than or equal to the specified values. However, the case in which a large average sample number is needlessly required often arises in their plans. In this paper, for the purpose of reducing the average sample number, a procedure for censoring inspection is proposed based on the minimax criterion introduced by Fujino et al.

This paper studies the service rate of the production inventory system with limited production capacity. After reviewing previous literature, an estimation method which applies the batch means method is proposed, the performances of the proposed method and previous methods are analyzed empirically. Based on the results, the influences of production capacity and safety stock levels upon service rate for two types of production ordering systems are analyzed. As a result, it is clarified that the production ordering system, whose inventory variance is smaller in tight production capacity, makes service rate higher than that of the other.

It is the purpose of this research to improve the inadequate parts of Morale Survey by the application of Fuzzy Theory. The job satisfaction measurement is one of the most fundamental methods in the method of Morale Survey. In this paper the job satisfaction toward a job event is obtained by the summation of (E×X) where E is the weight of the evaluation that used the Likert's method, X is the response about a job event to which the fuzzy system is applied. This approach is better than the usual old method from the point of view that it's a discriminable scale.

Characteristics of tandem queues with finite buffer have been studied by many researchers. These studies aimed at giving a general guideline on system design. Many of these models studied the effect of buffer capacity and/or service time distribution on system performance as measured mostly by the throughput, without considering the existence of demand. In this study, we explicitly deal with arrival of demand and show its effect on system performances as measured by multiple criteria such as throughput, degree of demand satisfaction, Work-in-process level (WIP), and average sojourn time.

Manufacturing cell formation is one of the most important problems faced in designing cellular manufacturing systems. The purpose of this study is to design effective manufacturing cell systems by developing a method which forms machines/parts into optimal machine cells/part families. The 0-1 data matrix structure is used to form a basis of manufacturing cell formation. In this paper, we propose a CE (Converted Entropic) method to reorder the 0-1 data matrix for manufacturing cell formation. The resulting solutions are shown to demonstrate the effectiveness of the CE method. Two major results can be derived. Firstly, the converted entropic measure of cohesion is superior to any other clustering criterion proposed before. Secondly, the CE method developed here provides an optimal solution.

Recently, the linear programming with interval coefficients which expresses the fuzzyness of the state was formulated and analyzed in some papers. On the other hand, a parallel branch and bound algorithm for solving mixed integer programming problems was proposed, and the speed-up by it on transputer for relatively large scale problems was reported. This paper proposes a parallel branch and bound algorithm for solving mixed integer programming problems with interval coefficients and develops a C program which implements the parallel algorithm on a widely used UNIX network. To demonstrate the usefulness of this method, some computational experiments are made on the UNIX network.

With the MRP (Material Requirements Planning) system, the determination of lot size plays a significant role. Until now, in the case of MRP, multistage works have not existed. In this paper, a model is constructed in order to determine assembly production and transportation plans. Then, the model is formulated by the MILP (Mixed Integer Linear Programming) method and an optimal solution is derived. In addition, a numerical example is shown to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed technique.

This paper deals with the problem of developing an effective push-type ordering system which can the amplifications of production ordering and inventory levels of two-stage production and inventory systems. The system which we call "γ-type" ordering system proposed in this paper can control the weight of feedback information from each stage. As a result, the ordering system can prevent any increase of the amplifications in the production ordering and inventory levels occurring at every stage leading up to the final-product stage.

Precedence relation in assembly has been determined by experience. An expert system is developed for planning such precedence relation. The conjugate states of the units of a product are shown in face frames and unit frames following the frame model. Three rules are formulated, which decide the precedence relation considering the geometrical interference of units clarified in the designing stage. Next, four rules are formulated in order to make the first precedence relation enable it to have shorter operation time, and a smaller number of JIG and substandards. Finally, an inference mechanism is constructed, which shows a sequence of the rules. The proposed method is programized by using a knowledge language (PROLOG), and this expert system is constructed.
