It is fundamentally important to understand the properties of soot formation and decomposition in diesel combustion.
Those processes depend on the following factors such as the size and velocity distribution of drops, evaporating characteristics of spray, the properties of the fuel and its gaseous environment and the mechanism of the mixing processes.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of the air temperature, air velocity and swirl ratio on soot formation due to a single shot injection of toluene in a combustion chamber under atmospheric pressuere.
The results are as follow:
(1) With further increase in intake air temperature (T2: K), it is considered to increase the soot formation because of shortening of ignition delay period.
(2) As the air velocity and swirl ratio increase, the soot formation decreases.
