It is possible to analyze ship behaviors including encounter frequency of other ship using AIS data.
Additionally, because of navigator's aging and decreasing, it is necessary to support ship navigation including collision avoidance. Therefore, the collision avoidance algorithm according to collision risk is needed to support collision avoidance. However, the indexes of collision risk proposed in the past are based on relative motions and it is difficult to search safety route easily. By using Obstacle Zone by Target (OZT), it is possible to understand collision points at true position. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to represent features of encounters situation with high risk of collision in the west side sea area of Izu oshima using OZT and a year's worth of AIS data
As the results, it is possible to represent traffic features base on collision risk by using OZT. In order to covered 98% of encounters situations required collision avoidance in this sea area, it is necessary to consider encounters situation of OZT within ten ships.
