The present study explores drivers’ behaviors on highways in Great East Japan Earthquake, in comparison with relevant previous works. A questionnaire survey conducted by the authors revealed that slipping from their own driving lanes to the next lanes was not observed. Although the early studies indicated drivers who receive Earthquake Early Warning during their driving jam on the brakes and these behaviors might cause traffic accidents, the survey did not observe such a phenomena. As previous works mentioned problems that a certain amount of drivers continue driving in spite of their awareness of earthquake and guiding information did not effectively reach drivers, the survey obtained the same results.
