Abstract

This research is about the observed influences by local community in Kobe City after Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake. Local community indicates the residents life and has a deep relation with them as a basic unit of the city. In this study the parameters that influence the relationship between community activity and the residential environment of local community has been studied.The local community characteristics that indicate residential environment are analyzed through census data (1990-2000). Currently the local communities are shifting toward disaster prevention and welface as their main activity in Kobe city. As a result, it has been found that as the relationship between community activity and residential environment is in a more satisfactory way, the community activities are more successful as well.
