In order to grasp inhabitants' risk perception of natural and manmade disasters, questionnaires on the citizens of Kochi city where natural disasters had often occurred, and Hitachi city where disasters had seldom occurred, were conducted. Based on these data, we examined how they perceive the probabilities of occurrence of various disasters in each city, possibilities of human death by that in various regional extent, and the risk characteristics of that. Applying logistic regression method, factor analysis method and so on, we compared the risk perception between the two cities and between six kind of disasters: heavy rainstorm, earthquake, tsunami, great fire, nuclear disaster and explosion accident.
