Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to analyze resident consciousness for retrofitting of existing houses. In the paper, willingness to pay (WTP) for retrofitting of existing houses is estimated using contingent valuation method from the questionnaire data of the Ichikawa City, Chiba Prefecture. From an regression analysis to find relations between WTP and household attributes, it became clear that risk awareness of earthquake occurrence and inhabitable area have effects to WTP. Finally, a simple simulation about relations between administrative subsidy and progress of the retorofitting of existing houses using estimated WTP is performed and administrative cost reduction by high risk cognition of earthquake occurrence is indicated.
