This study aims to elucidate relationship between differences in the objects that visitors gaze on in a historical district and their impression of the district. The results of a questionnaire survey for visitors in the historical districts in Takayama-shi, Gifu prefecture, suggest that visitors who gaze on a wide range of objects may have favourable impressions of the district in terms of its unity and uniqueness. Resultantly, the efficacy of the presentation of multifaceted aspects of a historical district to visitors is suggested. Visitors who gaze on local aspects, but do not focus on people, are implied to perceive a historical district to be less touristic.
