Abstract
This study aims to clarify the preparation and actual situation of receiving international tourists to green tourism in Japan and to analyze the development process, through questionnaire and interview survey on 12 rural areas that are actively engaged in the international green tourism. As the result, this study revealed that there are few areas that feel uneasy to receive international tourists due to the difference in language and culture, and that they receive international tourists by utilizing the activity usually offered to domestic tourists. Some areas hesitate to receive individual tourists though many areas have developed new segments of tourists and form of traveling. So it can be said that it takes some more time until to structure the circumstance that individual travelers easily stay in these rural areas.
