Health foods have become one of the most attractive items for global consumers than ever. However, most consumers purchasing those foods appear to have no precise knowledge about them, especially the actual efficacies and the effective ingredients of the respective foods labeled as “Food with health claims”, “Food for specified health uses”, or “Food with nutrient function claims”. Consumers who do not possess sufficient knowledge of nutrition tend to purchase such items based solely on labeling. High school textbooks for domestic science devote only a few spaces to describe “Food with health claims”. The study suggests that increased attention should be paid to the issue of food and health claims.
