Li_2B_4O_7(LBO) crystal is a piezo-electric crystal and it is used as a surface acoustic wave (SAW) devices. Even though the scatterers exist in the SAW grade crystals, large size scale crystals are grown by the vertical Bridgman method. The crystal of the high quality without the scatterers compared with the SAW crystal is necessary for the optical crystal. We found the growth method of controlling the scatterers, and then evaluated the crystal without the scatterers. It has been found that the crystal quality varied widely depending on the ambient during the growth process.
