This study investigated junior high school students' life in their private rooms in three different geographical regions. The results were as follows : 1. In all three regions, more boys had private rooms than girls. Furniture commonly used in their rooms were a desk, a book-shelf, a chest of drawers and a bed. Students used their rooms mainly for studying and sleeping. More girls cleaned their rooms than boys. 2. The number of students having their own rooms increased proportionately with age. Some girls in rural and fishing areas shared a room with a parent, a grandparent or two or more members of the family. 3. The amount of time students stayed in their rooms increased proportionately as students advanced to a higher grade.
