The purpose of this study is to reconsider the existing home economics education in Japan by the view point of ESD. The conceptual framework of home economics education as ESD was developed in this study. Six developed concepts were ‘diversity,’ ‘interaction,’ ‘finiteness,’ ‘fairness,’ ‘cooperation,’ and ‘responsibility.’ The content analysis of the textbooks in home economics education in elementary, junior high and high school from the view point of the six concepts was conducted. It was found that the textbooks of home economics education in Japan have many concrete descriptions of ESD, which help students create sustainable lifestyles.
