Abstract
The aim of this study was to examine the learning contents of accessory materials for garments
(buttons, snaps, hooks and fasteners) in Junior high school home economics textbooks from a repair
perspective. To this end, two studies were conducted and the desirable learning contents of accessory
materials for the future were proposed.
In Study 1, the descriptions of four types of accessory materials in the Courses of Study and home
economics textbooks of junior high schools were analysed from the perspective of repair.
In Study 2, the changes in the use of four clothing accessories for school uniforms were shown along
with the trends in repair requests for school uniforms.
Based on our findings, the following suggestions were made;
1) It is appropriate to maintain the current learning content of ‘buttons’, ‘hooks’ and ‘snaps’.
2)Although it is appropriate to maintain the current learning content of ‘hooks’, consideration could be
given to deleting it.
3) Textbooks should include materials on the construction and correct use of ‘fasteners’ and practical
exercises.
