With the aim of clarifying the current situation and issues surrounding supervisor and training, we conducted a questionnaire survey and interview survey of supervisor in charge of home economics in prefectures and ordinance-designated cities responsible for planning, managing, and operating training programs, and conducted quantitative and qualitative analyses. It became clear that the planning of training programs was influenced by the small number of home economics teachers and the declining skills of young teachers, which determined the content of the training programs. The interview survey suggested that a collaborative organization is essential to solve the difficulties and issues facing home economics, and that it is important to build a network using the subject training as a foothold.

A questionnaire survey on cleaning instructions was conducted among elementary school teachers. Practical activities and hands-on practices were the main focus of the home economics cleaning study, while the school cleaning instructions were centered on simultaneous instructions during cleaning time. In all cases, lack of instructional time, human resources, and equipments were cited as problems in instructions. In terms of innovations in the home economics cleaning study, many respondents mentioned connecting the study to home and school cleaning practices. In the home economics cleaning study, there was an awareness of the connection with many subjects, among others. The presence or absence of teaching experience was also found to affect the understanding of the characteristics of each subject.

The aim of this study was to examine the learning contents of accessory materials for garments (buttons, snaps, hooks and fasteners) in Junior high school home economics textbooks from a repair perspective. To this end, two studies were conducted and the desirable learning contents of accessory materials for the future were proposed. In Study 1, the descriptions of four types of accessory materials in the Courses of Study and home economics textbooks of junior high schools were analysed from the perspective of repair. In Study 2, the changes in the use of four clothing accessories for school uniforms were shown along with the trends in repair requests for school uniforms. Based on our findings, the following suggestions were made; 1) It is appropriate to maintain the current learning content of ‘buttons’, ‘hooks’ and ‘snaps’. 2)Although it is appropriate to maintain the current learning content of ‘hooks’, consideration could be given to deleting it. 3) Textbooks should include materials on the construction and correct use of ‘fasteners’ and practical exercises.
