This study developed and evaluated the educational effectiveness of a cross‑curricular lesson
addressing a social issue of noise at a nursery school within the Childcare and Housing Life domains
of high school home economics. The lesson enabled students to acquire knowledge about living
environments and childcare while fostering a heightened sense of personal responsibility toward local
challenges. Through activities that required students to consider diverse perspectives and collaboratively
explore solutions, students further developed initiative and collaborative skills for engaging with their
communities. In addition, the process of creating proposals demonstrated students’ ability to approach
problems from multiple angles while applying prior knowledge, suggesting that problem‑solving–oriented
learning contributes to their deeper thinking. Future challenges include promoting more student‑centered
and inquiry‑based learning, and developing teaching materials that reflect the realities of the local
community.
