This study aimed to develop a Japanese version of the Self-Compassion Scale for Youth (SCS-Y-J) and to examine its reliability and validity. Factor structure, internal consistency, and construct validity were examined in a sample of 903 junior high school students, and retest reliability was examined in a sample of 146 junior high school students. The scale was found to have a 17-item, 4-factor structure and acceptable validity. The reliability could be improved, suggesting a potential area for future investigation.
