Abstract
A 43-year-old woman was seen in the emergency clinic at our hospital because of abdominal pain and nausea. We suspected non-occlusive mesenteric ischemia (NOMI) and performed emergency laparoscopic surgery. We found no intestinal necrosis and performed only abdominal observation. A few days after surgery, she complained of intermittent abdominal pain and did not respond well to conservative treatment. We performed double-balloon enteroscopy and found segmental stenosis in the ileum because of enteritis. We made a diagnosis of ischemic stenosis of the small intestine and performed partial resection with laparoscopy. She recovered well and was discharged on postoperative day 8.
Ischemic enteritis rarely occurs in the small intestine and this is the first report of the performance of laparoscopic surgery for ischemic enteritis in the acute phase or stenosis phase. Early laparoscopic surgery is very useful to check the viability of small intestine, if intestinal necrosis cannot be denied.
