Abstract
The purpose of the present study was to analyze a workshop-type consultation for teachers at an integrated day nursery, from the viewpoint of reciprocal collaboration. The workshop consisted of 2 parts: First, participants (day-nursery teachers, psychologists, public health nurses, and administrators) studied a report about effective nursery practices. Second, the participants exchanged information about their own programs. In the preparation phase, teachers who reported about what they did at their schools and the psychologists engaged in a collaborative project pursuing mutual study. When the teachers answered the request of the psychologists to clarify their aims and the problems that they had in childcare, the teachers could find a turning point in their own practice. Consideration of such turning points made it possible for the teachers and the psychologists to become conscious of their specialty. Discussions among participants in the workshop were derived from the reported practices, which were used as a text. In the workshop, the psychologists' role was as both consultant and researcher.
