Abstract
This study proposed and examined leader's confidence for managerial behavior. Confidence means the degree to which the leader believes to be able to show certainly the necessary role behaviors in her/his department. The confidence measure newly developed was implemented for 170 organizational managers. The factor analysis indicated that leader's confidence was composed of seven factors which were related to "creating relationship with others" domain (i.e., developing members, building relation with members, and gaining support inside and outside of organization), and to "performing tasks" domain (i.e., empowering members, coping with problems, goal setting in work group, and innovation). The reliabilities of each factor by Cronbach's alpha coefficient were sufficiently high. The validity examination showed that this measure was correlated with self-esteem. Finally, the management orientation of the leader with higher confidence was analyzed and discussed.
